Charleston & Richmond Wedding Photographers
You’re here because you don’t just want posed wedding photos—you want all the unscripted, in-between moments beautifully documented too, and I’m here to help. Hi there! I'm Richmond wedding photographer Stacie Marshall, and true confession time— I am a death sentence for houseplants. I seriously have a brown thumb, but I love them! (So if you know of any really hardy plants to recommend, let me know. You may be saving the life of some other poor leafy friend!)
I studied photography in college, and have continued my education by taking a variety of classes each year. I’ve studied cinematography and editing with Oscar winners (Russell Carpenter and Tom Rolf) and learned documentary storytelling with a 60 Minutes producer (Mimi Edmunds.) I started my career as a producer at Fox35 and ABC8 before spending about a decade in education teaching videography and photography. My production experience has trained me to look for candid moments and made me a stronger storyteller.
Because of my background, I will be spending part of your day using my directorial skills. I’m happy to kindly take charge to efficiently organize family formals and wedding party portraits and to make sure your couple portraits look flattering and organic. But at other times, I love to be a fly on the wall and document moments as they naturally unfold.
When I’m not trying to revive my fiddle leaf figs, I'm an elopement, destination, SC, and Virginia wedding photographer calling Richmond, VA home. As much as I love to travel, I really love Virginia, too! I grew up in the mountains in Alleghany County and have lived in the Richmond area throughout my career.
I also adore Charleston, SC—the historic architecture, the beaches, the palms and dreamy Spanish moss. . . what’s not to love?
In my free time, I love traveling, decorating, fashion, volunteering, and grabbing a margarita (frozen, with salt!) or a glass of red wine with friends. My cat, Natalee, likes to help me edit photos, but she’s terrible company for Netflix watching—she falls asleep in the middle of every show!
Why you should hire me: I’ve been shooting professionally for more than 20 years. I worked in television production for much of that time, and I’ve won an Emmy! My focus through the decades I’ve spent in the industry has always been storytelling. My aim is to capture timeless and classic fine art images that are the truest reflection of who you are and what you're all about.
I’m always on the lookout to capture those candid moments as they happen, and I strive to make sure your posed moments feel comfortable and look natural.
I'm friendly and laid-back and want your time in front of my camera to be fun and memorable. If you want a positive, supportive person working hard behind the scenes on your wedding day, we should talk!

FAQ
How much is a wedding photographer in Richmond?
Honestly, that depends! You could find a photographer for $500 or $25,000. It’s like saying, ‘How much does a meal cost?’ You could find a meal for a few dollars at a fast food drive-thru or a few hundred dollars at a nice restaurant. The quality of the meal is likely very different, and so would the experience you’d have while eating the meal. A good wedding planner is always a great place to start with questions like this. They can help you establish a budget that works for you, and they’ll also be able to assist you with finding vendors you love who are in your price range.
What is the average cost for a wedding in Richmond VA?
I’ve read that the ‘average’ price for a wedding in Richmond, VA is around $33,000. Some weddings I’ve photographed had budgets in the $30,000 - $50,000 range for just their florals. And some couples I’ve worked with have opted to keep it simple and just say their vows with me present to document it. As you begin planning your wedding, think about essential aspects of your day, and plan to spend your money there. Weeding out the elements that aren’t as important to you will help you stay focused on making the day about you, and it’ll help you stay in budget.
Do I have to pay for travel or find wedding photographers near me?
Generally, wedding photographers have a mileage range from their business where travel is included. If you go outside that area, a travel fee is incurred. Often, if the travel is longer than a 3-hour drive, the price of a hotel may be added. Some photographers may be growing their destination wedding business, and their pricing may include travel for certain locations. Either way, photographers are happy to share their travel costs to help you make your decision.
Richmond Photographers
My eight-hour wedding collections begin at $6000 and include a second photographer. Engagement sessions, welcome party coverage, additional hours and legacy albums are also offered. Many couples spend $7000-9500. I also have an associate team of Richmond photographers for smaller budgets.
