Richmond Engagement Photos at The Capitol and Brown's Island
Althea and Seyi’s Richmond engagement session at The State Capitol and Brown’s Island was such a good time! Althea lives in Northern Virginia and Seyi is currently in grad school at UNC Chapel Hill, but they’re planning a destination wedding here in Richmond to be close to a lot of their family.
One of my favorite things about being a Virginia wedding photographer is getting to know my MAPcouples! Those ‘getting to know you’ efforts start right away with a questionnaire they fill out to make sure we’re a good fit. But the first real opportunity to get to know each other is at the engagement session!
These two make such a great team. I love how they play to each other’s strengths and are there to support each other. And while they’re beast at rocking the model face, I think the ones where they’re laughing at each other are probably my favorite because it shows the joy these two find in each other’s company!
How He Asked
Althea and Seyi met when they were freshmen at Virginia Tech. Althea was dealing with a family tragedy and Seyi was the friend who helped her through it. After being BFFs for about a year, Seyi, armed with red roses, took Althea a special spot to ask her to be his girlfriend.
3 years later, they returned to this same spot where he gave her the ring he’d chosen for her and asked her to be his wife. . . in German (her first language!)
They’re excited to have their wedding celebration be a blend of cultures. I can’t wait for their Nigerian-German-American wedding at the Independence Golf Club this winter!
Here are a few of my favorite images from their Richmond engagement session at Brown’s Island and the Virginia State Capitol!

FAMILY MEMBER SHOUT-OUT: I just wanted to offer up a special thank you to Althea’s sister Daria for coming along! She patiently waited during all the photo taking, ran back to the car for forgotten items and watched everyone’s bags —such the trooper!!!
