Charlsley + Matt

Charlsley and Matt’s Chesterfield wedding was simple fall perfection! With burgundy colored accents throughout and golden flowers, pumpkins and fall folliage used as decor, this wedding was as cheery and colorful as the couple themselves!

How They Met

Charlsley and Matt met back in 2013 when they were in 11th-grade economics class together. They were friends for about a year and Charsley says that Matt ‘friend-zoned’ her HARD! Then in August 2014, he asked her out on their first date and the rest is history!

How He Asked

Years later, the two were out to dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, Zheng Garden. Little did Charsley know, Matt had a surprise waiting for her when it was time for dessert! He had secretly worked with the wait staff without her knowing, and had “Charlsley will you marry me?” written in one fortune cookie. And in another cookie, she popped it open to discover an engagement ring!

Chesterfield Wedding at Church

Charlsley’s dad, Rev. James (Jay) Carey, Jr. is the pastor at Bethia United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, so of course the ceremony was held there! Before the ceremony, the couple met at the cross outside the church where each stood looking away from each other as they said a prayer together.

Charlsley and her dad shared a First Look before the wedding. But when it came time to decide whether he should walk her down the aisle or officiate . . . well, they found a way he could do both!

The church’s associate pastor, Mylicia Markam, officiated the beginning of the ceremony, and then Charlsley’s dad stepped in and gave a heart-felt and at times, hilarious, sermon for his daughter’s wedding!

After the ceremony, we popped outside for photos before returning for their reception where Charlsley and Matt’s fun-loving sense of humor really shined! Matt jumped into a friends’ uplifted arms ‘Dirty Dancing’ style at one point during the evening, and Charley’s father-daughter dance was a fast dance routine set to popular Christian music!

It was such an honor documenting this special season in this sweet couple’s lives! Here are a few of my favorite images from their beautiful fall wedding in Chesterfield, VA.
