The museum was the perfect backdrop for Katie & Brian’s spring VMFA wedding.

Katie arrived to shadow her dad, a doctor, at work since she also wanted to become a doctor. But her dad had another idea. He introduced her to Brian, a resident that he liked, thinking Katie might have more fun shadowing Brian.

It was several years of schooling and work later before the two would meet again. And it soon became evident to both of them that there was something there they needed to pursue.

For Katie, this was huge. She had been sad thinking her dad would never meet her husband, so she was stunned to realize that not only had her dad liked her future husband, but he actually introduced them!

With an origin story like that, a wedding day would have a lot to live up to. Fortunately, Katie and Brian’s day definitely lived up to the challenge.

The couple made sure not to just plan a ‘pretty’ wedding, but they were very intentional in infusing the day with sentimental details. Brian designed the drawing of VMFA used as a neon cake topper and on their invitation suite.

Guests were invited to sign a length of embroidered red Chinese silk fabric in place of a traditional guest book— a nod to the groom’s heritage. And the bride hand-embroidered all the table numbers, using the florals she’d selected for the day as her inspiration!

Katie & Brian, it was such a privilege getting to capture this chapter of your love story! I hope you always continue to be the best team that makes each other laugh, just like on your wedding day.
