Byrd Park Engagement Photos | Merideth + Ryan

I enjoyed getting to know Merideth and Ryan a bit more during their Byrd Park engagement photo session, even if it was a bit of an unconventional session! Because of the social distancing campaign to ‘flatten the curve’ during the Covid-19 pandemic we did not shake hands when we met, nor were there any goodbye hugs. (And it was definitely the first time my engagement prep email included a sentence where I explained to my couple that I was washing my hands—ha!) This was my last session before the government mandates about non-essential businesses closing for the time being, and I was grateful we fit this in before putting shoots on pause for a while!

Merideth and Ryan first met when she got a job at the same club in Florida where Ryan had opened his restaurant. It wasn’t long before they became friends, and soon after, a couple!

Later, while traveling in Hawaii, the two began talking about future plans and goals for their lives, both individually and together. Then, as the sun set in Oahu, Ryan got down on one knee and asked her to spend forever chasing their dreams together!

For their engagement session, we met up at Richmond’s beautiful Byrd Park and explored Dogwood Dell and Fountain Lake/Boat Lake together (while trying to have a conversation staying the recommended 6’ apart.) So many of the trees were flowering, and it was fun to hear them plan which varieties they’d like to plant in their yard one day!

They’d planned to bring their dog along, but that would’ve required another person to help watch the dog, so they opted to leave their pup at home. We did take some fun photos with a different kind of baby though—Ryan’s car! (Check out this blog post if you also love cars and are looking for fun wedding getaway car ideas.)

It felt great to get behind the camera again, and after so many spring wedding postponements, I was grateful for the outing with one of my MAPcouples! I can’t wait for their Country Club of Virginia wedding this fall!

Everyone stay safe and stay healthy! Here are a few of my favorite images from their engagement session!
