The Estate at Independence Wedding | Elizabeth + Andrew
Liz and Andrew’s winter The Estate at Independence wedding day was both tons of fun and absolutely beautiful! They had so many friends and family with whom they wanted to celebrate their wedding day, and this Midlothian, VA wedding venue had plenty of space for everyone to come together.
How They Met
Mutual friends decided that Liz and Andrew should meet and invited them both to dinner at their house last February. They knew Liz from church, and Andrew had been a childhood friend who had just moved to the area. The rest, as they say, was history!
I’ve known Liz for a few years, and it’s been so fun seeing how happy she’s been since meeting Andrew. She’s always been one to radiate joy, but she truly lights up around Andrew, and he keeps her laughing. (He’s really funny!) I was over the moon when she asked me to photograph their wedding day, and it was every bit as wonderful as I imagined!
The Wedding Day
January in Richmond can be so fickle. Fifty degrees one day, and twenty the next. On this day, icy winds made their outdoor portraits a testimony to their dedication to capture the day’s memories in pictures. Their wedding party members were all such troopers, and I appreciate their positive attitudes because it was so cold!
I was so grateful Liz and Andrew had chosen to do a First Look on this particular day because it allowed us to get their portraits and their wedding party pictures out of the way before the ceremony. And it was a good thing! The frigid winds eventually turned into icy rain . . . lots of it! We had hustled before the ceremony to get in as many portraits as possible because I knew that forecast wasn’t promising for after the ceremony. Liz wore her mom’s mink jacket that elegantly helped keep her a little warmer. (Richmonders will notice the ‘Thalheimers’ label in her vintage jacket in the photos below!) We did grab an umbrella and head outdoors for a couple quick ‘just married’ portraits before their reception started, but for the most part, I was just thankful I didn’t have to have the couple out there long!

This couple is so loved, and that was evident all day. Liz walked down the aisle on the arms of her father and step-dad as a packed church of friends and family smiled on. The wedding march was beautifully played on bagpipe, and Andrew grinned ear-to-ear as his bride walked toward him!
After the couple entered the reception, the band started to play. Liz and Andrew shared their first dance, and then they finished the song with Liz dancing with her dad, and Andrew dancing with his mom. Everyone enjoyed listening to music from Triple Crossing Jazz Project as they ate dinner. But the real fun happened when guests headed to the dance floor for some swing dancing!
Liz and Andrew, it was an absolute honor and privilege to help preserve the memories of your beautiful wedding day. May God continue to bless you both and your marriage! <3
