Country Club of Virginia Wedding | Alexandra + Porter

Country Club of Virginia Wedding in Richmond

It was the perfect fall day for Alexandra and Porter's classic Country Club of Virginia wedding in fall!

Porter and Alexandra's journey began amid the pandemic. Despite the uncertainty, their connection blossomed through texts, calls, and FaceTime. Fast forward a couple of months, and they decided to meet for a socially distanced date at a park. Porter brought along his Goldendoodle, Riley, and as they walked through the park, it was evident that what they had over the phone translated seamlessly into real life.

(I loved that we actually went to Brown’s Island, the location of that first date, for their engagement session with Riley!)

I was happy to get to meet the family and wedding party at Alexandra and Porter’s welcome dinner at Quirk Hotel the night before. As soon as the couple arrived, we raced to the rooftop to capture photos of them with the most perfect double rainbow spanning the Richmond city skyline!

We also captured photos of the toasts, which were given on rehearsal night instead of at the reception. I really liked that this gave the guests more time to dance and mingle during the reception!

Before the ceremony, the winds outside were really gusting as Alexandra and Porter shared their first look, and the winds played with Alexandra’s veil, lifting it and making it billow. It was such a beautiful moment!

We tucked the couple under the covered porch as they exchanged their private vows so they were protected a bit from the winds. Porter was so handsome in his white dinner jacket tux, while Alexandra looked stunning in her strapless wedding gown, complete with the most perfect bow on the back and a cathedral-length veil.

The wedding ceremony was so heartfelt and classic, set in a ballroom against a white fireplace decorated with blue and white florals and crystal chandeliers overhead. A string quartet played during the processional.

The couple’s beloved Goldendoodle made a special appearance for portraits after the ceremony. We managed to capture some great moments with Riley before family members whisked the pup home.

For their golden hour portraits, the couple was welcomed by zero winds and lots of sunshine! We had so much fun capturing them dancing and snuggling at sunset.

Richmond painter Matt Lively was on hand during the reception, painting an impressionistic scene of the reception in the ballroom. The painting was a gift from a family member—what a wonderful gift, and something I’m sure the couple will treasure having in their home! (And guests enjoyed getting to see Matt in action.)

The celebration continued as everyone danced the night away. The private last dance shared by Alexandra and Porter was a last shared moment in the space, a chance to reflect on the day before they made a grand exit.

The couple made their exit in a 1953 Bentley, the perfect way to end a perfect day.

Alexandra & Porter, I absolutely loved working with you both (and Riley, the wonder Goldendoodle of course!) I can’t imagine a more perfect wedding day. I loved seeing how much you enjoyed yourselves—especially when the DJ played Taylor Swift song!!! I hope you both have the happiest of lives together. Let me know if there’s ever anything I can do for you!!!
