Engagement Photos in Alaska | Destination Wedding Photographer

What a treat it was to capture these Girdwood Alaska engagement photos! When Natalie, Ken and I initially hopped on a call to chat about their destination wedding in Alaska, they mentioned they’d like engagement photos in NYC where they now live. But Natalie was a little wistful and torn, because she’s from Anchorage, and she also wanted photos captured in Alaska, too. So I sent them a proposal that included NYC engagement photos and a pre-wedding couples session in Girdwood, Alaska.

When you call to chat with me about your wedding photography, I want to know your photography priorities. I’m happy to customize your coverage to make sure we capture everything you want! Some brides opt for a separate bridal portrait session. Some couples add rehearsal dinner coverage. Some add wedding albums (and many add three albums—so parents get albums, too!) So why Girdwood? When the couple was looking into venues, they were really torn between The Inn at Tern Lake in Moose Pass, and Crow Creek Historic Mine in Girdwood. Ultimately, The Inn at Tern Lake won out. But because of all the natural beauty that’s easily accessible for a session, we decided to do a session there, too!

The bride and groom were wonderful hosts to their out-of-town guests and really wanted for them to experience all the beauty that Alaska has to offer. They had planned a hike and lunch at Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood, so we simply timed their session to happen before the hike!

We started the session at Virgin Creek Waterfalls. The short hike on a well-marked trail made the falls easily accessible. And we timed it well where we practically had the falls to ourselves! Then we headed to Moose Meadows at Moose Meadow Park. We ended with some photos with the spectacular views at the top of Alyeska Ski Resort before the bride headed back down the mountain to hike up with friends, and I joined the groom and family and friends to wander around the resort taking photos until the hiking team joined us for lunch.

We had a fantastic day in Girdwood! It’s literally a dream location for portraits.
