Historic Hofheimer Building Wedding with Rooftop Portraits

Colleen and Derrick had a beautiful Historic Hofheimer Building Wedding with rooftop portraits taken at The Graduate Richmond.
Derrick and Colleen met on a dating app back in 2017. Although, if you ask Derrick how they met, he will tell you they met at a grocery store picking out avocados. When Colleen saw Derrick on Bumble, she swiped right because he attended the same college she went to for law school. Colleen thinks Derrick swiped right on her because she had a picture of her with her two Labrador retrievers dressed in color-coordinated outfits with Santa. Obviously, after a few dates, she knew that he was the one!
On their third date, they watched a movie at the Byrd Theatre. They then got ice cream because they are both big fans of the yummy treat! They shared their first kiss as they strolled back towards the Byrd Theatre. Fast forward two years from their first date, Derrick had arranged dinner reservations for them at a location that was a surprise to Colleen. He took her back to where their story began at the Byrd Theatre, where they had their first kiss. Derrick suggested they look at the marquee for the movies playing. On the marquee, it read, “Will you marry me?” When Derrick got down on one knee, Colleen broke down into tears of joy and said yes! After they went to dinner, they were greeted by their closest friends and family.
While they planned on having a big wedding in January 2021, they had to make the tough decision of postponing their celebration. At the end of 2020, they eloped with their parents and two members of their bridal party.
When it was finally time to celebrate Derrick and Colleen, they were so excited to party with all of their guests! The historic Hofheimer Building was the perfect location for them to host their wedding. Its historic charm and urban, industrial atmosphere feature wood floors, a beautiful skylight, and exposed brick walls. They filled the space with balloons to create a light and airy, whimsical feel.
I was so excited that we did their first look, wedding party, and couple portraits before their wedding on the rooftop at The Graduate Hotel Richmond! Because shortly before their ceremony, a fierce thunderstorm rolled in. We were not able to go up on the roof of The Hof for family formals and just married portraits as we’d planned.
For dessert, they had Gelati Celesti since ice cream is their favorite dessert! Ice cream is always a fun summer treat, and it was perfect for this August wedding. Their reception was filled with dancing, making memories, and tons of fun!
Colleen & Derrick, you two are the absolute best, and I love how you support each other and how you make each other laugh! It was so fun getting to know you both and to see you finally celebrate with your friends!
