Grace and Johnathan had a classic and timeless Richmond Main Street Station wedding at the historic venue.
These two met at the New York Public Library 53rd Street branch. They were both working in the children's department and crossed paths. At first, they were good friends and then developed stronger feelings for each other. Before anyone knew they were dating, they would exchange post-it notes to communicate at work. On their first dating anniversary, Jonathan made a card for Grace out of post-its.
When Jonathan was ready to propose, he made her another card out of post-its. Grace thought it was just an anniversary card until she read the last post-it note that said, "Marry Me?" He proposed underneath the carriage arch in Ft. Tryon Park in NYC. Another sentimental element of their proposal is that her engagement ring belonged to his great-grandmother. It's a beautiful family heirloom!
I started the day off with Grace. her bridesmaids and family at her parents’ home where Grace grew up. We made sure to capture a few family portraits in front of their home before we headed out. Johnathan got ready in Church Hill, and we were able to capture some wedding party portraits with the beautiful Richmond skyline in the background.
Grace and Johnathan had a beautiful Congregation Beth Ahabah wedding ceremony. Before they signed the Ketubah, they shared a first look and took wedding party portraits. Then, their family gathered around while these two signed the Ketubah. Grace's parents escorted her down the aisle to her groom during their beautiful ceremony.
After their ceremony, we headed to one of my favorite Richmond wedding venues, Main Street Station! Even though we had already taken their couple portraits, I always like capturing a few portraits of the couple in front of their venue—especially when it’s an architectural gem like this one!
Main Street Station is a wedding venue that still serves as an active train station, just like it did when it was first constructed. Many people associate the historic landmark with Richmond even if they’ve never visited the city because it’s visible from the interstate. The famous clock tower that presides over the city is a distinguishing feature of this historical location.
There are multiple venue spaces in the station. Their cocktail hour was held downstairs, dinner was held in the shed—a long modern structure whose windows overlook the city. And their reception was held in the historic Headhouse. The Headhouse is a French Renaissance-style venue with accommodations for 200+ guests. With shining marble floors and high ceilings, the Headhouse is surrounded by tall arched windows that let in natural light and overlook the streets below.
Because these two first met at the library, they had a beautiful and unique escort card display arranged their guests' table assigments using old library cards and books.
Jonathan and Grace had their first dance with all of their guests surrounding them on the dance floor. Their friends and family shared fun and loving toasts for everyone to enjoy. They had a private champagne toast outside to end their perfect wedding day. As a couple, they were able to take this moment to themselves overlooking the city as they soaked in this wonderful day.
Grace & Johnathan, I had so much fun getting to know the two of you as we wandered Baltimore for your engagement session and captured your wedding day photos. It was an honor to be there to capture your gorgeous wedding day and the love you two share for one another and your family!
