Charlottesville Photo Locations

If you’re looking for engagement locations with mountain views, there are lots of options around the Charlottesville area. Here are a few of my favorite Charlottesville engagement photo locations!

1. Waterperry Farm - Beautiful mountain views from/a sweeping field, but also so many beautiful photo opportunities in their stunning gardens! A great option for lots of variety. ($200 for a 2-hour session.)

2. Raven's Roost Overlook - This is a popular spot for engagement photos because you get this stunning view of mountains behind you with a rugged rocky terrain that looks like you've hiked out to the middle of nowhere when you've actually just pulled off to the side of the road. Couples end up sharing the space with a lot of other photographers/couples, but it is pretty and is popular for a reason!

3. Trump Winery + Albemarle Estate - One of the largest wineries in the state, Trump winery offers beautiful mountain views. I couldn't find where session fees were required at the winery itself, but it appears only overnight guests have access to photograph at Albemarle Estate. This could still be a viable option if you're interested in a getaway night before or after your session!

4. Carter Mountain Orchard or Chiles Peach Orchard - Beautiful views of the mountains & valley. Easy access and they sell apple cider donuts. ;)

5. Market at Grelen - Like Waterperry Farm, this spot offers mountain views but also more variety, too. They do charge a session fee, but they're offering 600 acres of options for it.

6. King Family Vineyards - King Family Vineyards does charge a $50 session fee, but their grounds and views are worth it! Mountain views in every direction, and very dog-friendly for the couples who want to bring along their pups!

7. Barboursville Vineyards Barboursville does not charge a fee. The vineyard is pretty, but the real stunner here are the Barboursville ruins that are on the grounds. Barboursville's staff was so accommodating when I was there for my last session. They really went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

8. Swannanoa Palace - This mansion in Afton photographs beautifully. It makes a nice half of an engagement session for your more formal photos, and you’re right at the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway to pick up your more casual shots with mountain views! There is a $100 session fee to access the palace and gardens for an hour, and you have the entire place to yourself.

9. James Monroe's Highland (formerly Ash Lawn) is the last location I'll recommend! Beautiful, sweeping views, some nice variety, and a nominal session fee ($50.)
