Wedding Venues in Virginia
You know how people have travel bucket lists? (I have a very long one of those, but we’ll save that for another post!) Well, I have a top Virginia wedding venue bucket list! Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard, The Homestead Resort, Branch Museum of Architecture and Design, Dover Hall, Big Spring Farm, and the Mill at Fine Creek are among my favorite Virginia Wedding Venues!
While I love to shoot at my favorite venues, I also love exploring new venues. I love going back to a wedding venue and knowing it well and going into the wedding comfortable and confident that I know where I’m going and where all the cool photo spots are. But I also enjoy stretching my creativity and learning new-to-me venues!
A few things I find that I’m always drawn to are beautiful outdoor scenery at wineries, in the mountains, in the city, or at the ocean. I love shooting portraits outdoors in gorgeous glowy light. So a beautiful outdoor space is key! I also love unique and historic architecture with pops of classic bling! (Think columns and chandeliers!) Venues that have both score extra bonus points with me!
Some venues hold sentimental value. I grew up in the mountains, so mountain weddings hold a special place in my heart. My hometown is nestled snugly in between The Homestead and The Greenbrier and I have very fond memories of visiting both resorts over the years with my families. (We celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary at The Homestead with them!)
Other venues just make me have all the ‘heart eyes’ for days. I can perfectly envision capturing a happy couple’s wedding day memories there! (I may actually have dreams about doing this. I wake up all bummed that I haven’t actually shot those images yet—ha!)
So here are a few of my favorite venues from the past year, and several that are on my bucket list for the future!

VA Wedding Venues at Quaint Estates and Inns
Hornsby House Inn
Situated right by the water in Yorktown Beach, this quaint family-run inn is a charmer. The family lived in the home until they decided to use it as a wedding venue, and it’s filled with family paintings, antique furnishings and other touches that speak to its rich history. The owners were on hand to help with anything the couple needed and even offered a toast at the reception from the family’s Nuernberg Bridal Cup.
Virginia Cliffe Inn
Southern charm and a plantation feel just moments outside of Richmond! This wedding venue offered a quaint little private bridal suite and separate area for the guys to get ready and hang out. The second floor porch is the perfect spot for your string quartet!
Bienvenue
This cozy estate in Powhatan greets visitors with a long, tree-lined drive. It’s perfect for an intimate wedding with plenty of outdoor space to bring in a specialty food truck, too!
Inn at Willow Grove
When you first drive up to this Virginia wedding venue, you’ll be struck by its stately charm and happy yellow exterior. Just imagine portraits of you and your honey posing with this gorgeous inn in the background.
Linden Row Inn
Historic Tuckahoe
There’s a reason this venue is a Richmond area favorite! It’s garden-filled grounds right on the James River offer a lush landscape that’ll make your wedding photos look like something out of a fairy tale. ;)
Inn at Little Washington
Virginia Wedding Venues at Classic Country Clubs
Brandermill Country Club
This Richmond area country club is a crowd-pleaser! The floor-to-ceiling windows show off views of their golf course with beautiful tree-lined views!
Country Club of Virginia
Hermitage Country Club
The classic interior of the Hermitage Country Club is perfect for a sit-down dinner with plenty of room for dancing! The golf course offers lots of beautiful views for sunset photos of the couple and wedding party!
Congressional Country Club
Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg
Nestled between the golf course and the river, this gem of a venue features a gorgeous ballroom and lots of space for a tented reception.
Virginia Wedding Venues in Elegant Ballrooms
John Marshall Ballrooms
With stunning architectural details and premiere service, John Marshall Ballrooms is an elegant and classic Richmond wedding venue! I’m always amazed at how quickly their staff can completely transform a ballroom from ceremony site to reception site, too!
The Renaissance
Montpelier Center for the Arts
Located 30ish minutes away from Richmond, this classic ballroom is a stunner! It’s a large ballroom that can accommodate a lot of guests. When couples add their own flair to it, it completely transforms to fit the occasion! (Give me allllll the live flowers and twinkle lights!)
The Commonwealth Club
Virginia Wedding Venues at Hotels, Restaurants + Resorts
The Boathouse
I grew up spending most of my summers camping at Smith Mountain Lake, and still feel like there’s nothing quite like spending time on the water. There’s something so peaceful and serene about being near water. And a wedding by the water—be still my heart!
The Omni Homestead Resort
The Homestead is near my childhood home and those mountains will always be home to me! The Homestead is where I took my parents to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary, and we had a blast playing board games in the lobby with them and spending lazy days in the lazy river! It’s also where I took my son’s senior portraits. It’s truly just classic elegance at its best. And there are so many gorgeous places there for portraits!
Fun fact, my parents planted trees when I was a baby. Those trees eventually grew way bigger than they’d planned and started to block the driveway a bit. Well, the Homestead does a nationwide search for the Christmas tree that graces their lobby, and yup—one year my ‘baby’ tree was selected as their Christmas tree!
Kingsmill Resort
The Greenbrier
While not a Virginia wedding venue, The Greenbrier is just over the WV border and is another venue that’s near my hometown! I’m obsessed with all the colors and patterns from decorator Carlton Varney of Dorothy Draper Company. (Follow them on instagram for some pure eye candy!) My family loves to go there at Christmas when they’re all decorated. We take pictures with the tree and enjoy grabbing drinks at the lobby bar under one of the chandeliers from Gone with the Wind!
Quirk Hotel
This Richmond boutique hotel is bright and white with touches of colorful modern art. (It’s one of my favorite brunch spots for girl’s outings!) I love the architectural arches and the fact that they kept some of the elements from back when the hotel used to be a department store! (I love when buildings get a new life with a different purpose!)
The Jefferson Hotel
The Jefferson is quintessential Richmond! I loved shooting a wedding at The Jefferson. Who doesn’t want portraits taken on that grand staircase?
Berry Hill Resort
Rural & Rustic Virginia Wedding Venues
Big Spring Farm
I grew up in Covington, VA so Lexington is right nearby and makes me feel like home. I love the sweeping views from this gorgeous venue!
Malden Hill
Malden Hill Wedding Venue is a fairly new venue and Beth and Ellison’s laidback charmer that I shot was the first wedding ever held there! The large barn with open windows showcasing the spectacular view made for an epic ceremony site! And the large area downstairs was perfect for dancing and dining. The wide-open space outdoors made you feel you’d traveled to the Virginia mountains when you were really right outside Richmond!
Deltaville
One of my favorite weddings of the year was a simple wedding on the water at a family’s cottage! The intimate setting was perfect and the bride’s choice of coastal blue for bridesmaids dresses was perfection. (See photo below of their sand ceremony!)
Mount Ida Farm

Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond
Chapel at St. Joseph’s Villa
The intricate blue ceilings, the pastel paintings, the arches—there are so many things that makes this beautiful church such a romantic setting for a church wedding! Plus, the grounds around it are lovely and have so many great opportunities for portraits!
