Kayla and Wayde's winter Richmond Engagement at VMFA and Belle Isle was chilly but fun!

We started this engagement session at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The museum is the perfect location for indoor engagement photos in Richmond. If it's a cold day like this particular day or raining, there are so many unique spots within the museum to photograph!

The first outfits that Wayde and Kayla wore were perfect. The neutral colors aesthetically matched the colors in the VMFA. Kayla wore a midi-length Prussian blue dress with a lace back detail and spaghetti straps and fringe tassel at the bottom (that gave me Roaring 20’s vibes, which made this vintage-era loving photographer’s heart happy!)

After exploring inside the museum, we braved the cold and headed outside! The architecture outside the VMFA makes an excellent backdrop for engagement photos. I was thankful that the sun made an appearance that day because it added some contrast to the shoot.

After taking some of their engagement photos at the VMFA, we headed to Belle Isle. This island is 54 acres right in the heart of downtown Richmond. It has a rocky shoreline, the sun sets right over the water, and a cool pedestrian bridge leads you over the James River. Kayla and Wayde bundled up for warmth for this location but still looked fashionable as ever. Kayla wore an adorable faux-fur jacket even sunglasses in a few photos, which fits her cool personality well.

Wade proposed to Kayla a little over a year ago when they vacationed in Florida! They share a precious Tawny Mastiff pup named Jäger.

It was such a pleasure to capture Wayde and Kayla's engagement photos! I've known Kayla for years and was so excited when she’d reached out about her wedding photography. These two are getting married this December at the Barn at Timber Creek, and I can't wait to photograph their big day!
